Marigold & Rye · Café & deli on Alder Street

Today’s menu

A twelve-table café and deli in downtown Portland. The board follows the clock — breakfast off the bakery run, lunch from the deli counter, small plates and a glass in the evening. When a dish runs out, it stays on the board, struck through, until tomorrow.

The café

Twelve tables, one board.

Marigold & Rye is a twelve-table café and deli two blocks off the square. The kitchen cooks in small batches all day: pastries and eggs while the ovens are hot, the deli counter through the afternoon, and small plates once the lights drop.

There is no printed menu — this page is the board. When the clock moves, the menu moves with it, and when a dish sells out it is struck through until the next morning’s run.

  • Counter seats for solo lunches
  • A deli case to take home by the pound
  • Beans from a roaster four blocks away

Questions

Asked at the counter.

Do you take reservations?

No — we are walk-in first, and the room turns over quickly. For groups of six or more, call ahead and we will hold the window table when we can.

Can I order food to take away?

Everything on the board travels well. Call before you arrive and we will have it wrapped and waiting at the counter — there is no online ordering.

How do allergies and diets work?

Dishes are tagged V, VE, GF, and N on the board. Tell the counter about any allergy and the kitchen will walk you through what is safe today.

Why is a dish greyed out?

It is sold out. The kitchen cooks in small batches, so when something runs out it stays on the board — struck through — until tomorrow morning’s run.
